The sun rose the next day making the crystals of Shard's End glint in the light. The crew of the Bug-out started to prepare themselves for the coming day. Little did they know that the trackers from the tribe had made it to the space port and were now in search of their vessel.
Sebastian and Bishop headed off to the training room to get some sparring in while Lucas watched from the side lines. It was a good way for them to learn about each other while Lucas could chat on the side to catch-up about their lives since their last mission together. Matt wandered into the repair bay to try his hand at fixing the hand flamer they had recently acquired. He was pretty content with himself when he got it to work again.
Meanwhile, Linda and Jeb headed for the markets to see what there was to stock up on. The two of them sensed that the atmosphere of the markets was a little tense that day. While Jeb did managed to score an order of Frakk grenades from a local arms dealer, Linda was not as successful, only able to find what turned out to be a worthless trinket.
Tyris and A-113 had wandered out to get some fresh air, but could also feel the apprehension in the air. People were on edge, and after a while of wandering around, A-113 was able to spot the cause. A large group of Primitives were wandering through the streets, clearly looking for something. One of them followed some kind of dog like beast as it was sniffing around.
A-113 soon noticed the markings on one of the individuals and remembered them from their encounter the day before. He quickly sent out a silent signal to the rest of the crew to inform them of the threat and to make their way back to the ship. A-113 caught up to Tyris just a moment before the dog creature began to bark a deep and throaty sound. The pack of primitives had identified Tyris and began to aggressively push their way through the crowd to get to him. A-113 grabbed Tyris by the arm and began to lead him back to the ship. At first, them moved at a sprint, but then it turned into a full dash as they could hear the battle cry behind them.
With their pursuers hot on the heels, A-113 did they're best to lost them in the crowd, winding down ally ways and darting towards side roads. Finally they turned the last corner and went directly towards their ship. A-113's evasive moves had bought time for the rest of the crew to prepare defensive positions.
As Tyris and A-113 ran across the landing zone to their ship and up the ramp, the primitives had just rounded the last corner into view. As they drew closer, Linda took the first shot. Letting lose a shot from her grenade launcher, the first blast vaporized the Chieftain, their tracking pet, and one of the other tribesmen. The rest of the crew opened up with their firepower cutting down a few of the other grunts.
The remaining primitives were spooked. They didn't expect their quarry to be so well armed and efficient. They turned around and made their way out of town. Their hearts just weren't into the revenge they seeked. Another pair of tribesmen were cut down as the fled.
As reward for not only defending their ship, but also the town, the crew were rewarded with some equipment and ship parts. One particularly unsavory character offered to do some trading with the crew and ended up providing a damaged seeker sight in exchange for a working communicator.
The recent experience had made Lucas ponder what he was looking for in his mercenary career. Was this what he really wanted to be spending his days doing? Was there not a better way?
As the sun set, the crew finished up their daily tasks around the ship and then prepared for the next day. While their quest of dismantling Extra-solar Implementations operations was pointing them off-world, Matt felt there was still some good to be done around Shard's End.
