As the next dawn broke, things were beginning to become more unstable on Petain. Civil unrest was growing after the recent banning of psionics. While news of the halted invasion of converted had put some at ease, this now allowed more people to focus on the psionic issue.
For Matt and the crew, they could tell it was getting close to the time they should be leaving Petain. To that end, Matt reached out to their secretive patron and informed them that they would take on their mission. This would likely be their last job for now.
Then the crew began to set about their day, preparing for the mission and the possibility to leave quickly incase Petain became more unstable. Matt and Linda took to the training room to brush up on some close quarters techniques, while Jeb and Bishop set about to repair some more gear in the stash. Jeb was able to repair an old broken blade while Bishop fixed the recently retrieved infantry laser.
Sebastian took A-113 out to the markets. A-113 came across some old tourist garbage from before the psionic crackdown. It was a psionic postcard which projected a scenic view into your mind, which A-113 found to be pleasant. Meanwhile Sebastian was able to secure a military fuel cell for the ship, ensuring they were good to go when ever they needed to.
Tyris and Lucas went out to explore the sights. After some wondering, Tyris discovered that another famous K'Erin trainer was doing a pop-up dojo and today was it's last day. Without hesitation, Tyris booked the last spot and spared with the blade master, further honing his techniques. Lucas watched the session, but found himself more interested in a hushed conversation two other observants were having. It seemed there was a rumor of some major criminal activity off-world that was draining resources from Petain.
Once everyone returned to the ship, Matt provided the mission brief. For this mission, they had to sneak into the old abandoned sewer system beneath the city. There, they would need to free a corporate agent being held down there as a prisoner. Ideally, they would get in and out without alerting the guards. After going over their infiltration and exfiltration routes, they set out to begin their mission. Jeb and Bishop offered to stay behind again and watch the ship.
The team snuck into the sewers and got into position. There were a lot of guards wandering around, so many of the team stayed in place waiting for a signal from Matt. Linda was given the go ahead after Matt distracted a guard with a sticky noise maker. She crept into position and waited for a gap in the patrols. Their target was just inside a small locked cell on the opposite side from where she was.
As the moments passed, Matt timed another distraction giving Linda the opportunity to sneak across the hall and into the cell. She freed the agent form his restraints and had him follow her back out the way they had come in. With the target secured, the rest of the team secured the exfiltration routes and Linda brought the agent out of the sewers.
The agent thanked Linda and the team for the rescue and went to a near by safe house to await further instructions. Before heading out though, he informed the team that the local authorities would be initiating a crackdown soon due to the instability rising on Petain. With this new information, the team headed back to the ship and began to prepare.
Sebastian did some last minuet purchases and sold of some old gear for some new. Jeb and Bishop reported that the new fuel cell was installed and ready to go. With everything in place for a take-off tomorrow, the crew sat around the mess hall and shared some drinks. Matt felt pretty lucky to have such a team and looked forward to where the crew would go next.
