From the Work Bench: March 11, 2025

Hey Everyone! Long time no post. It has been a very busy year since my last post. I've changed roles a few times at work and we welcomed our new daughter into our family back in September. I also took a break from painting miniatures last year. Between life changes and a lack of motivation to paint, I let the hobby rest most of 2024 and started to really get back into it this year. So far in 2025 I've completed over 30 models which already surpasses my completion rate from 2024.

A new branch of hobby I'm getting into now is BattleTech. My first interaction with the IP was back in the 90's when I played the Mech Warrior 2 game on PC. Since then I've played a few of the other games but now I'm starting to collect the miniatures. Last year during one of my local hobby stores anniversaries, I picked up the Game of Armored Combat starter set and one of the random surprise Mech packs.

Looking into BattleTech's lore proper, it's as daunting I'm sure as a new 40K player might feel. I quickly realized that my knowledge of the BT universe was very small, so I was a little deterred from starting to paint the minis until I had an idea of what faction I wanted to pursue. However, that never gained any traction with me and finally, after watching the Tabletop Minions video "Change HOW You Hobby to Increase Your Motivation", I got inspired to just paint the Mechs randomly to what ever color scheme appealed to me at the time. It wasn't about having a cohesive scheme across my collection, it was just trying out new things, or color schemes that I'd thought about trying, but didn't really want to commit to for a whole army. The results have been great. I've already completed 5 new models.

And in completing models, this has rejuvenated myself to complete some more of my 40k backlog. So with that, I feel like I'm back in the saddle for my hobby again and making progress.

So with a bunch of new BattleTech minis now complete, I've made a new gallery for them which is now live.

Until next time!
