Another day on Petain and Matt found he had received several messages for jobs. It seems the quality work they had done the day prior was earning them a good name on this world. The secretive group they had worked for was already offering another job, as were two advocacy groups.
The secretive group's job looked simple. A private vessel of theirs had crashed out in the wilderness and they needed a team to go in an secure the site before one of their recovery teams could collect what they needed. Matt sent a reply that it would be taken care of.
The crew then when about their day. Sebastian asked Tyris to train with him and help whim work out some close-quarters techniques. Their sparring matches went well and Sebastian learned some new moves, but was also able to teach Tyris a few tricks.
A-113 and Jeb set out for the market to see what they could find today. Always seeking to be prepared, A-113 was able to secure a very sizable amount of fuel for the Bug-out in case they needed to get off world in a hurry. Jeb wandered into a ship parts dealer and was able to secure a modest amount of spare ship parts. They could come in handy if they had to do some patch work.
Lucas and Linda hit the town to explore and see what there was going on. Lucas found himself in a weird tech shop full of weird equipment, but he spied something useful. In a discarded bin, there was an AI companion set that just needed a little love to be fully operational. Lucas knew that Bishop could use one of those. Linda meanwhile found herself at an arms dealer selling off some hardware for really good prices. Knowing a good deal when she saw it, she acquired an auto rifle to add to the ship's armory.
Later that day once everyone had returned to the ship, Matt and Bishop started to work on repairing some of the gear that needed attention in their inventory. Lucas asked Matt if he could fix up the AI companion as a gift for Bishop, and Matt got it fixed with no trouble. Bishop, having secured the parts he needed was able to finish fixing the concealed blade he had been working on.
Later that evening, Matt got the crew together and went over the job. He highlighted where the crash site was and had made arrangements with their patron to drop them off near by to secure the site. They weren't told much about what the ship was transporting or why it had crashed, but that they had to do a sweep of the area, ensure it was safe for the recovery team, and then they'd get paid. Linda and A-113 stayed behind to guard the ship and the rest of the team boarded the provided shuttle and set out to the mission sit.
When they arrived, the sun was setting and the forest as becoming more dimly lit. Matt and Tyris took point as they began to head towards the downed craft. It was very quiet around them and it made the team a little unnerved.
They came up on the clearing the craft had made when it splashed down. Some of the trees still glowed from the fires that had torched them when the ship had impacted. Tyris put up a hand to signal a stop as he spotted something on the hull of the wreak. There were slash marks that were not caused by the trees as the ship smashed into them.
Then there was a chattering and screeching as something worked it's way out of the crashed ship. In a blur of motion, part of the hull smashed outward as a Vent Crawler burst out into the open. Spying the group gathered around, it threw it's head back and screeched again. The team opened fire, hitting it with everything they had. Tyris landed the final blow, dropping the creature to the ground with sizzling holes all over it's carapace.
Matt signaled to the team to be careful and finish sweeping the area. No further enemies were identified. Bishop did come across a Quality Sight which looked to have come from a dead crewmen.
With the sweep clear, Matt signaled the recovery team and waited for their arrival. Not long after, the recovery team moved in and the team leader went to that Matt. It turns out the recovery team leader was an arms dealer. After swapping some stories, he offered Matt some choice hardware for securing the site. Matt accepted three hand cannons for their armory and collected the pay for the job, which they were compensated really well for.
On the flight back into Duplantier's Entry, Tyris reflected on their journey so far and felt he had grown quite a bit since joining Matt's team.
Once back in town, on the advice of the arms dealer, Matt went to night school for the one night course for getting a Freelancer Certificate. It would come in handy if they ever needed to have a license for freelancing on any worlds in the sector as the certificate would suffice in place of a license and prevent them from having to pay the fee.
