This army overview is a 2 for 1! While the Adeptus Mechanicus and the Imperial Knights are two separate factions, many knightly houses swear fealty to the Admech, and so does my knightly house.
Currently I haven't named either my Admech or Knightly house, but they are aligned together. As one of my much younger factions in my collection, I haven't really had a chance to flesh them out yet. And the color scheme is a little chicken or egg situation. Before I got any Admech models, I knew what color scheme I wanted for my Imperial Knights.

The color scheme I wanted was from the mech that participated in the opening assault in Mechassault 2. In my mind, a black carapace with chrome skeletal structure and red lights/windows. My first set of models for my Admech/Knight collection had been the Forgebane set which I had gotten for the new Necron Cryptek (which is currently the base Cryptek model for Necrons as of 11th edition and also known as the Technomancer Cryptek). It provided the basis of my new Admech collection and Imperial Knights as the set included a Techpriest, a squad of Skitarii and 2 Armigers (currently known as Warglaives)

It wouldn't be until 8th edition that I got my first Admech codex where I was able to dig into the lore. It was there that I discovered the Forge World of Stygies VIII, the secretive sub-group which also conveniently had a similar color scheme to my Knights. So with that, I just extrapolated my color scheme over to my Admech units!

This is probably my easiest and quickest paint scheme. I start with a basecoat of Celestra Grey, followed by Leadbelcher. Then I do a Nuln Oil wash followed by a Runefang Steel dry brush. After that, I do all cloth (or armor panels on vehicles) with Abaddon Black. Lights and lenses are then picked out with Evil Sunz Scarlet and glowing weapon parts (like plasma panels) are done with a Carroburg Crimson shade.
The base is done with Castellan Green, then Stirland Mud followed by static grass.

I've added a few units over the years, but this is still one of my youngest armies. Total, it clocks in over 2,000 pts (which can fluctuate as Games Workshop does quarterly points adjustments) but the collection is about a 60/40 split between Admech and Knights favoring Admech for points.
Sometimes, when my work bench would get bogged down and I needed a win to get things moving, I would through a unit of Admech onto the desk as I could bang them out quickly and provide myself with the momentum I needed to get other projects moving. However, I haven't had any Admech or Knight projects for a few years now.
